- Sugar for Hiccups: forget holding your breath or having someone scare you. A clinical trial showed that eating a teaspoon of straight sugar will stop hiccups for the majority of people.
- Help for Headaches: have someone that you trust place their hands behind your head as you lie on your back. Your partner's thumbs should be placed beneath your jaw. Without twisting, they should pull gently. This can quickly reduce your headache pain.
- Duct Tape for Warts: the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine reported on a study that showed that duct tape can be more effective for wart removal than having it frozen off. Put a small patch of duct tape over the wart. If it falls off, replace it quickly. After 6 days, soak the wart in water and use a pumice stone or emery board to rub it. Repeat process until wart falls off.
- Acupressure for Nausea: turn your wrist upward, taking your thumb between the two main tendons that go from your wrist to your elbow. Put a good amount of pressure on a point 2 or 3 finger widths from the base of your wrist. Works well on mild nausea.
- Epsom Salt for Splinters: Epsom salt is a good alternative to tweezers for deeper problems. Soak a compress in two cups of Epsom salt mixed with a gallon of water. Apply soaked compress to affected area. This action should draw the splinter closer to the surface where is can then be grabbed by tweezers.
- Saline Nasal Rinse for Allergies: get a large squeeze bottle to hold the solution. Take one quart of distilled water or cooled boiled water and add 2 to 3 teaspoons of non-iodized salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Put eight ounces of mixture into your squeeze bottle. Tilt your head sideways over a sink and squeeze solution into one nostril, allowing it to drain out the other one. Panting will help you avoid feeling like you're drowning.
- Honey for Burns: use honey (especially manuka or organic honey) on mild or moderate burns to help them heal up to 5 days faster.
