When you have passive venting system?

Living in Collier County in Golden Gate Estates, the house is sometimes very HOT! The past week has been oppressive. There has not been a break in the heat.

I sprayed water over the house, using a $10 firehose attachment.

The water hitting the roof cools off the temperature of the attic, which means the air conditioning is fighting less against the attic heat (since the attic air won't be as hot).

When I was done (after 15 minutes of dousing the roof all over 'til water ran down), the house temperature went down:

1 degree.

It was a good degree, but one degree just the same.

I wonder if we could put ice blocks under the soffits (whose purpose is to suck air up into the attic and out the ridge vent running along the top of the roof) to cool off the attic air?

We're gonna try it. [using 1 gallon milk jugs]

Do you think it'll work? What do you think?
