Calcium is a necessary mineral for life. It helps in building bones and keeping them healthy, and in addition it also helps nerves send messages, our blood clot, and muscles to contract .Vitamin D plays an important role in protecting the bones. Children need vitamin D to build strong bones, and adults need it to keep their bones healthy and strong.

Thought they both have individual benefits the researchers analyzed data from more than 1,900 postmenopausal women who were randomly selected to receive either calcium carbonate with vitamin D3 daily or an inactive placebo. The researchers found both groups had similar levels of joint pain and swelling at the start of the study period, and this was the case two years later also. The researchers discovered that joint symptoms are relatively common in postmenopausal women. However, daily supplementation of 1,000 milligrams of calcium carbonate and 400 international units of vitamin D3 in a haphazard, placebo-controlled clinical trial setting did not diminish the self-reported frequency or severity of joint symptoms.

The researchers also revealed that the findings do not contradict current recommendations for vitamin D intakes for bone health and fracture-risk reduction. Previous research looking at how low calcium and vitamin D levels affect joint health has produced mixed results.
