Unusual uses for vinegar
HINTS FROM HELOISE
By Hints From Heloise Tuesday, June 19, 2007; C07
Dear Heloise:
I found an unusual use for vinegar.
While repotting a plant, I discovered that an army of ants had moved into the dirt. I poured a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water on the dirt and I was rid of them.

Not only will your vinegar solution keep ants out of your plant dirt, but if you wipe down your kitchen counters (do not use on marble, granite or specialty countertops) with a solution of half vinegar and half water, you will also discourage the little buggers from following the scent trail left by other ants.
Also, to remove shampoo buildup, rinse your hair with a solution of 1 tablespoon vinegar to 1 cup water.
To kill weeds and unwanted grass between pavers, just pour on a little vinegar. They'll be gone.
Heloise Update: Our much-loved vinegar does nothing to help a sunburn. I know. I've printed (and thought) this for years, as have many of you.
But new research says nope, it doesn't help. Sorry, folks.
Dear Heloise:
I used to lose a lot of sewing needles before I found that the little plastic containers in which mechanical pencil lead comes work fantastically.
They're just the right size for standard needles, and I haven't lost a needle since.

Dear Heloise:
When the scent of a body lotion is too strong, I mix it with unscented lotion in a separate container. The scent becomes more tolerable, and the scented lotion is used up more slowly.

Dear Heloise:
Every time we purchase some new electronic device, it comes with a power cord. So that they don't get confused, I label the cord with a piece of tape and a permanent marker. I attach the tape like a flag and write on the flag what the cord is for. It saves lots of confusion.

Dear Heloise:
If your cell phone has capabilities that you do not use, such as Internet, pictures, text messages, etc., call your service department and have these items blocked. Should your phone be lost or stolen, a large bill can be run up in a hurry using these services.
