Chalazion refers to specific lumps or cyst that develops on the edges of the eyelids
23 February 2013 (http://www.kamagrarx.co/) Chalazion refers to specific lumps or cyst that develops on the edges of the eyelids. This are caused due to the inflammation in clogged meibomian gland which is located on the upper eyelid. It is sometimes termed as meimomian cyst or tarsal cyst & the size ranges from two to eight millimeters.
• Symptoms:
1. Eyelid swells & becomes tender. 2. Excessive amount of tear flow. 3. Eyelids become heavy. 4. Mild pain or feeling of irritation in the initial stage, but this gently reduces.
• Causes:
There are minute glands beneath the eyelid that contain oil-like liquids which prove beneficial for lubricating the eyes. A certain blockage in these glands causes the fluid to get clogged as well, thereby swelling it & resulting into the formation of the cyst. It is not a factor that leads to infection. Gradually, it leads to the growth of nodules or granuloma where hard chronic lumps are generated which gives rise to the phenomena termed as chalazion.
• Diagnosis:
A close examination of the eyelid helps to detect its problems. It is difficult to differentiate between a stye and chalazion. But it there exists a solid lump in the inner surface of the eyelid, it is a chalazion.
• Treatment & preventive measures:
A large chalazion can be eradicated through surgery if it is causing trouble on the vision. Some home-made techniques prove to be beneficial for curing this infection. They include:
1. Application of both lukewarm & wet compresses for a couple of minutes helps to reduce it. It should be done for 4-5 times a day for quick recovery. This method opens the clogged bump which leads to the draining of the stuck fluids & easy healing.
2. Medical ointments or solutions like Lomb eye wash or medicinal pads like ocusoft lid scrub have been proved beneficial.
3. Allow the chalazion to open naturally.
4. Avoid applying eye makeup or contact lenses unless this portion gets recovered completely.
5. Do not rub your eyes since this leads to entry of the bacteria into the eyes, worsening the situation.
6. Try to clean your eyelids at least two times a day for the removal of the dirt & grim stuck in these areas adding to formation of the cyst.
7. By injecting steroid at the exact point of the chalazion, proves positive results of its disposal after two weeks.
